What is Competitive Eating?
Competitive Eating is a face stuffing contest in which participants compete to see who can down the most food in the least amount of time. Although some people do feel that Competitive Eating doesn't have the recognition it deserves, the speed eating community is packed full of hungry athletes. Like most sports, competitive eating also requires strategy and proper training to have positive results. There are many different training methods an athlete can use to win a competition.

Competitive Eating did not receive proper name recognition until the mid 1990s. The first competition was in 1916 by 4 immigrants who decided to have an eating contest to determine who showed the most patriotism. The idea of competitive eating was beginning to form after that one contest and the first official competition was held at Coney Island in 1972. After it's first contest in 1916, MLE became a lot more popular in the sports world. George and Richard Shea were the leaders of Nathan's Famous publicity to get the sport's name out there, they soon took control of the sport and founded the International Federation of Competitive Eating, now known as Major League Eating (MLE).
