Gum Chewing
Throughout a contest, a contestants jaw could weaken. This results in a disadvantage and even a serious injury. Many athletes prepare for this type of injury by training their jaws! One type of way to increase an athletes jaw strength is by chewing their food for a long amount of time. They do this for every meal that they have. As a result, their jaws can chew for longer periods of time without feeling tired. A more effective and common method is gum chewing. By chewing gum your jaw continuously keeps chewing without stopping. This training increases a player's jaw strength significantly. An athlete should "chew sugarless gum though, because its a lot better for [their] teeth" (Santel, par. 9). Chewing sugarless gum is healthier for the eater because they'll result in, not only a healthier body, but stronger teeth!
